FLUSHING, N.Y. -- The New York Mets today announced they will hold the 2008 Mets Anthem Search Wednesday, March 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the SNY Studios at Sixth Avenue and 51st Street. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. for the opportunity to audition to sing the National Anthem prior to a Mets home game during the final season at Shea Stadium.

Ten vocalists from Wednesday's event will advance to the final round of auditions at Shea Stadium in the weeks ahead. The five finalists selected based on their performance of the National Anthem from the field in the final round will perform the National Anthem at Shea later this season. Winners also will receive four box seats to the game and a Mets jersey.

The first 100 to register are guaranteed an audition and a pair of tickets to a 2008 Mets home game. The first 100 participants will have the opportunity to perform a song of their choice a capella before the Mets Anthem Search judging panel -- singer Michael Amante; Gary Apple, anchor on SNY's SportsNite; and Lolita Lopez, weekend sports anchor for the CW11.

Last year, those seeking to audition for the inaugural Mets Anthem Search began queuing in line as early as 4:30 a.m. The Mets ended the line last year at 12:00 noon.

The Anthem Search winners will join the historic ranks of previous anthem singers at Shea including Marc Anthony, June Carter and Johnny Cash, Kristin Chenoweth, Glenn Close, Sheryl Crow, Art Garfunkel, Wyclef Jean, Billy Joel, Cyndi Lauper, Aaron Neville, *NSYNC, Rihanna, Carly Simon, the casts of The Color Purple, Spamalot, and The Wedding Singer, and many others.

The auditions are free and open to all ages. Those under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
