You have said before that your father was a Yankees fan. How did you become a Mets fan?
- Ted in Long Beach, N.Y.
I went to several Yankees games as a kid before I was ever taken to Shea. I think a friend's Dad took me to my first Mets game. Probably 1966. Anyway, Shea and the Mets just seemed so much more fun than the Yankees, and that's probably why I went in that direction.
Does Mike Pelfrey have what it takes to be a front-of-the-line starter?
- Steve in Ronkonkoma, N.Y.
He certainly has the stuff to be a legitimate No. 2 or 3 starter for a long time, Steve. And lately, he's starting to show the consistency that makes you think he's not far away.
Who do you think is the best third baseman in Mets history?
- Craig in Freeport, N.Y.
The current one.
If they could go back in time which trade do you think the Mets would most want to take back? Ryan? Seaver? Kazmir?
- Kyle in Manhattan
The Seaver trade was the greatest embarrassment to the Mets organization, Kyle. And it only took place because of the misplaced arrogance of one man -- M. Donald Grant. The other two deals were simply baseball misjudgments.
Are the Braves still the Mets' biggest rivals?
- Dan in Westchester, N.Y.
I think that changes all the time, Dan. In the 1980s, it was the Cubs and the Cardinals, in the '90s the Pirates, and for about a 10-year span, the Braves. But because of geography, Mets-Phillies has a chance to be bigger than all of them.
